STEIN OLAV HENRICHSEN, Director, Munch Museum, Norway
Stein Olav Henrichsen was appointed director of the Munch Museum in 2010. Since he began his term, the decision to build a new Munch Museum in the Oslo harbour area has been resolved – with the opening scheduled for 2020.
Under his leadership, the Munch Museum has raised its own income from 5-7% to 36%. Moreover, visitor numbers have increased by 100% in five years, and the amount of international activities has nearly tripled.
After completing his education in 1973, Henrichsen performed as a musician in a broad range of musical styles up until 1994. Beginning in 1989, he led the contemporary music ensemble BIT20, and from 1993 the company for modern opera, Opera Vest. From 2007 until 2010, he was Director of the Bergen National Opera.
He has founded and led numerous cultural institutions and networks, has served on a number of boards both in Norway and abroad, and sat on several government committees related to cultural politics.
